Intern Job Description
Note: This is an unpaid position
TITLE OF POSITION: AUDIOVISUAL AIDE
PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist the audiovisual staff in general archival work in the audiovisual area, including description, preservation, clerical, and reference work on the audiovisual collection of still photographs, film, and sound recordings.
DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Prepare descriptive information on photographs, videos, sound recordings and film.
- Prepare photo finding aid books.
- Prepare material to go to an offsite lab.
- Refile photos and negatives.
- Assist the audiovisual staff in responding to reference requests from staff or outside sources.
- For preservation purposes, place negatives and photographs in acid-free sleeves.
COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
A minimum commitment of four hours per day or a minimum of 135 hours during the term of their internship is required.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
- Must be age 16 or older
- Reliable, responsible
- Able to work independently
- Able to accept supervision
- Typing skills and computer skills helpful
- Detail oriented
- Good organizational skills helpful
- Ability to perform repetitive and detail oriented tasks
TRAINING/ORIENTATION PROVIDED:
Since the duties performed by the Audiovisual Aides are varied, training and work assignments are both designed to meet the individual requirements of the task to be accomplished. Training is provided on-the-job by the Carter Library's audiovisual staff.
Basic reading material on the Carter presidency and archives work is additionally provided.
